Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 9 September 2026
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") are the agreement between you and RouteGems Limited, a company registered in England and Wales ("RouteGems", "we", "us"), for your use of the RouteGems service at routegems.cc (the "Service").
In simple terms: we help you plan cycling routes and find food, water and shelter along the way. You're responsible for deciding whether a route is safe and legal to ride. Please read these Terms — we've written them to be understood, not to hide things.
1. Definitions
- "Service" — the RouteGems website, applications, APIs, and everything we provide through them.
- "Account" — the registered account you create to save routes and use subscription features.
- "Subscription" — a paid plan giving access to features of the Service, as described on our Pricing page.
- "Content" — anything you upload or create in the Service, including routes, GPX/TCX/FIT files, route names and descriptions, stops, and profile information.
- "AI Assistant" — the natural-language assistant available on designated subscription tiers.
- "Route Data" — routes, tracks, course points and related files generated by or exported from the Service.
2. Acceptance of these Terms
In simple terms: using RouteGems means you agree to these Terms.
By creating an Account, starting a Subscription, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and the policies referenced in these Terms (including the AI Assistant Policy, Community Guidelines and Safety Disclaimer). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
3. Eligibility
In simple terms: you must be an adult (18+) able to enter a contract and pay for a subscription.
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an Account (a subscription is a contract, and in the UK contracts require adult capacity).
- A paid Subscription requires a valid payment card.
- The Service is currently offered to customers in the United Kingdom. We may expand availability over time; features and pricing may differ by region.
- The Service is for personal, non-commercial use unless we agree otherwise with you in writing.
4. Accounts
In simple terms: keep your login details safe, and give us a real email address.
- You must provide accurate information when registering, including a valid email address, and keep it up to date. You can change your email address and password yourself in Settings → Profile.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity on your Account.
- We may ask you to verify your email address. Some features may require a verified address, and changing the address on your Account requires your current address to be verified first.
- Tell us promptly at support@routegems.cc if you believe your Account has been compromised.
- You may not sell, transfer or share your Account.
5. Subscriptions, free trial and payment
In simple terms: paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe. New subscriptions may include a free trial that converts to a paid plan unless you cancel first.
- Subscription features, tiers and prices are described on the Pricing page at the time you subscribe.
- Payment is taken in advance by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your card details on our own systems.
- Where a free trial is offered: a payment card is required to start the trial; the trial converts automatically to a paid Subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before it ends; we will aim to remind you by email before the trial ends.
- Prices may change. We will give you reasonable advance notice of price changes by email, and a change will take effect at your next renewal after the notice period. If you do not agree to a price change, you may cancel before it takes effect.
- If a payment fails, we may retry it and may suspend Subscription features until payment succeeds.
6. Cancellation and refunds
In simple terms: cancel any time; your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for. Fees already paid are generally non-refundable.
- You can cancel your Subscription at any time from your account settings. Your Subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period, and you will not be charged again.
- Subscription fees are payable in advance and are non-refundable except where required by law, and except that accidental duplicate payments will be refunded.
- We do not give partial refunds for unused time in a billing period.
- Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a UK consumer. Where you have a legal right to cancel and receive a refund (for example under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), that right applies. By starting to use the digital service immediately, you acknowledge that you lose the statutory 14-day cancellation right in respect of the service you have already received.
- See the Refund & Cancellation Policy for a plain-English summary.
7. Using RouteGems
In simple terms: plan rides, find stops, export files — for yourself. RouteGems is a personal service, not a business tool, and you mustn't abuse it or use it for anything illegal.
The Service (and each subscription plan) is provided for your personal, non-commercial use as an individual rider. You may use it to plan, edit, analyse, share and export cycling routes for your own riding. You must not:
- use the Service in the course of a business — including planning routes for clients, customers or events, or building the Service into another product or service — without our prior written agreement;
- access the Service by automated means (scripts, bots or other programmatic clients). The Service has no public API today; if you are interested in business use or third-party integration, contact support@routegems.cc;
- use the Service in breach of any law;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other users' accounts or data;
- probe, scan, overload, disrupt or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure;
- scrape, harvest or bulk-download data from the Service other than through features we provide;
- resell, rebrand or commercially exploit the Service or its data without our written agreement;
- circumvent subscription restrictions, usage limits or security measures;
- misuse the Service to send spam or unsolicited communications.
We may apply fair-use and rate limits to keep the Service responsive for everyone, and we may suspend or terminate Accounts used in breach of this section (see Section 17).
8. Your Content
In simple terms: your routes are yours. You give us permission to store and display them so the Service can work.
- You retain ownership of all Content you upload or create, including routes and uploaded GPX, TCX and FIT files.
- You grant RouteGems a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt (for example, to generate previews, thumbnails or elevation profiles) and transmit your Content, solely for the purposes of operating, improving and promoting the Service.
- For Content you make public, this licence includes displaying it to other users and visitors (see Section 9).
- You are responsible for your Content. You confirm that you own it or have the necessary rights to upload it, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights, contain malware, or include unlawful material.
- We may remove Content that we reasonably believe breaches these Terms or the Community Guidelines.
9. Public routes and sharing
In simple terms: if you make a route public or share a link, other people can see it.
- You choose whether a route is private or public. Public routes (and routes shared by link) can be viewed by others, including people without an Account.
- You retain copyright in public routes; the licence in Section 8 allows us to display, feature and promote them within and about the Service.
- Do not publish routes that cross private land without permission, or that encourage unlawful or dangerous riding.
- You can make a route private again at any time; cached or exported copies already obtained by others may persist.
10. GPX, TCX and FIT files
In simple terms: exported files are generated automatically and can contain errors. Files you've downloaded are yours to keep.
- Route Data exported from the Service (for example GPX or FIT) is generated automatically from mapping data and your edits, and may contain errors, inaccuracies or omissions.
- Devices interpret navigation files differently; check your route on your device before relying on it.
- Files you have downloaded are yours to keep, including after your Subscription ends. Access to the Service itself (including re-exporting and stored routes) depends on an active Account and, for subscription features, an active Subscription.
- Sending routes to device platforms. Where we offer a connection to a third-party device platform (for example Wahoo), sending a route pushes it into your own account on that platform, under that platform's terms of service. The connection is optional, can be removed at any time in your account settings, and its availability depends on the third party's service — we can't guarantee a platform's API remains available or unchanged. Routes already sent remain in your platform account after disconnecting.
11. Cycling safety
In simple terms: you ride at your own risk. RouteGems is a planning tool, not a guarantee that a route is safe.
Cycling — especially long-distance and off-road riding — involves inherent risk. When you use the Service you accept that:
- route suggestions are recommendations only; RouteGems does not guarantee that any route is safe, legal, accessible, open, rideable or suitable for you;
- you are responsible for assessing your own ability, equipment and experience;
- roads, trails, byways and rights of way change, close and flood without notice;
- amenities shown (cafés, shops, water points, accommodation and similar) may have moved, closed, changed hours or ceased to exist;
- where weather information is displayed (a feature of some plans), it consists of third-party
- you should carry sufficient food, water, clothing and emergency equipment, and ensure your bicycle is roadworthy;
- you must obey traffic laws and respect private land and rights of way;
- GPS devices may deviate from the intended route, and Route Data may contain inaccuracies;
- you should never rely solely on RouteGems for navigation and should always have a backup;
- the Service is not an emergency navigation or safety system and must not be relied on where failure could lead to injury, death, or property damage.
forecasts (currently supplied by Open-Meteo) provided for planning convenience only: we do not verify it, it is not guaranteed to be accurate, it becomes less reliable the further ahead you look, and it is not a substitute for official forecasts or severe-weather warnings; daylight is not accounted for;
Please read the Safety Disclaimer, which forms part of these Terms.
12. Mapping data and accuracy
In simple terms: our maps come from community and third-party data. It's usually excellent — but nobody can promise it's always right.
The Service is built on third-party and community-maintained data, including OpenStreetMap, elevation datasets and geocoding services (see Copyright & Attribution). This data may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and we do not verify it. We provide the Service and its data "as is" and make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness or currency of any map, route, elevation profile, surface classification or amenity information.
13. AI Assistant
In simple terms: the AI assistant is a helpful tool, not an oracle. Verify anything important, and don't misuse it.
- The AI Assistant is available on designated subscription tiers and may be subject to usage, message and rate limits to ensure fair access.
- Artificial intelligence: AI-generated content is produced automatically, may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, and is provided for general informational purposes only. It is not legal, medical, financial or professional advice, nor professional cycling coaching, and it is not emergency guidance.
- Suggestions relating to routes, equipment, nutrition, accommodation or amenities are generated automatically and must not be relied on as the sole basis for any decision affecting your safety or wellbeing.
- You remain responsible for anything you submit to the AI Assistant and for how you use its responses. You retain ownership of what you submit, and you may use responses for lawful personal purposes.
- Your use of the AI Assistant is subject to the AI Assistant Policy, which forms part of these Terms. Misuse may result in suspension of AI features or of your Account.
14. Intellectual property
In simple terms: we own RouteGems; you own your routes; open-data providers own their data.
- RouteGems and its software, design, branding and databases are owned by RouteGems Limited or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer any of that to you.
- Your Content remains yours (Section 8).
- Map data, tiles, geocoding and elevation data belong to their respective providers and are used under their licences — see Copyright & Attribution. Your use of that data through the Service must comply with those licences.
- You may not copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer the Service except as permitted by law.
15. Availability of the Service
In simple terms: we aim for reliable, but we're not promising perfection.
We work to keep the Service available and fast, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may modify, suspend or withdraw features (or the whole Service) for maintenance, security, legal or business reasons. Where reasonably possible we will give notice of significant planned disruption. We are not liable for unavailability caused by events outside our reasonable control.
16. Privacy
Your personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights under UK data protection law.
17. Suspension, termination and account deletion
In simple terms: you can leave any time. We can suspend accounts that break the rules. If your subscription lapses, we keep your data for 180 days so you can come back — then we delete it.
- You may close your Account at any time, yourself, in Settings → Privacy & sharing. We will email a confirmation to the address on the Account. We may ask why you are leaving; answering is optional, and the answer is kept without anything that identifies you.
- We may suspend or terminate your Account or access to features if you materially or repeatedly breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Where reasonable, we will warn you first.
- When your Subscription ends, your Account becomes inactive. We retain your Account and Content for 180 days, during which you can reactivate. After 180 days we delete your Account and Content — including uploaded routes, public routes and profile data — except where we are legally required to retain information (for example, tax and accounting records).
- Files you have already downloaded are unaffected.
18. Limitation of liability
In simple terms: we're liable where the law says we must be. We're not liable for riding decisions, third-party data errors, or losses that aren't our fault.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by law. Nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
- Subject to the above, we are not liable for: loss or corruption of data you have not backed up; losses arising from inaccurate third-party or community mapping data; losses arising from your riding, navigation or preparation decisions; business losses (the Service is for personal use); or losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you agreed to these Terms.
- Subject to the above, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the amounts you paid us for the Service in that period.
19. Indemnity
If your Content or your unlawful use of the Service causes a third party to bring a claim against us, you agree to compensate us for losses, costs and expenses reasonably arising from that claim, except to the extent we caused them.
20. Changes to these Terms
In simple terms: if we change the rules, we'll tell you.
We may update these Terms from time to time — for example when we add features, or when the law changes. For material changes we will give you reasonable advance notice by email or in the Service. If you continue using the Service after a change takes effect, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree, you may cancel and stop using the Service.
21. General
- These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us for the Service.
- If part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- A failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms as part of a business transfer; you may not transfer yours without our consent.
- These Terms do not create rights for anyone other than you and us.
22. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction (if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings there).
